Microsoft has issued a patch for several vulnerabilities that can be exploited by malicious software to run arbitrary code on affected systems and access confidential data.
In addition to the already discovered and publicized vulnerabilities announced in July, a new problem came to light earlier this week. A critical vulnerability in WebClient.dll of Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 left the affected software vulnerable to code injection attacks. By exploiting the flaw, hackers could potentially “sneak” a malicious program onto any system that runs Internet Explorer 6, 7 or 8 without the user’s awareness or consent.
The patch, which has been released by Microsoft for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, updates this particular vulnerability with a patch that consists of 15 files totaling about one megabyte in size. The other patched vulnerabilities, although not published by Microsoft, include remote code execution flaws in Microsoft Excel 2007 and Office 2003, including Word, PowerPoint and Access, and a heap overflow vulnerability in IE 6, 7 and 8, which can allow an attacker to completely compromise the user’s system.
Below is the patch’s list of files:
IRQL_4D961612.dll: Provides methods to generate data required by a portable device driver to operate on memory-mapped I/O devices

Cisco is one of the most popular networking equipment. It can be a big headache for IT administrators to work on the Internet as well as in private networks. But that’s exactly what Cisco has been working on. One of Cisco’s biggest updates was the Catalytic Converter which provides administrators with improved troubleshooting with the addition of features such as monitoring and analysis. This updated version has been deployed on various hardware platforms including mainframes.
This article will cover several of the most recent upgrades and enhancements to the Cisco Catalyst 6000 Frame Relay Software Release 3.
On the Data Access Layer, the latest release brings performance improvements to native vendor routes (e.g., Frame Relay II/V interface) by updating the existing performance counters for Frame Relay II and Frame Relay V sub-interfaces. The performance counters display the number of frame exchanges, retransmissions, and discarded frame packets on the sub-interface.
Furthermore, administrators can resolve DAMA (Data Access Mismatch Accounting) on the native vendor routes and sub-interfaces with the assistance of time-based, vendor-specific counters. This capability is a highly requested capability from customer site and field personnel.
The next upgrade also relates to the data access layer. The latest release of the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Remote Software Release 3 implements an upgrade to the new line-state marker for HDLC Line services. Line-state markers provide new line service features to enhance performance and ease of use. For example, by setting the “Normal” state as the default state, a single “Normal” state is returned whenever a new Line service is requested, and the service is returned to the Normal state when the new Line service is completed.
The upgrade also brings performance improvements and memory usage enhancements to hardware line services.
In addition to enhancements to the data access layer, the most recent Cisco Catalyst 6000 Frame Relay Software Release 3 also provides

Printers are a core facility in every office. They are also a large investment, but not as large as you might think.
Several of the popular printer brands sell printers that are 15 years old or even older. There are over 50 million desktop printers currently in use worldwide and over 150 million fixed-function network printers in use at businesses today. There are more than 9 million laser printers and about 4.5 million inkjet printers in use in North America alone. The modern printer market is enormous, and companies of all sizes depend upon them for daily use and production.
A company that does not have a backup printer in the office is not living in the digital age; instead, it is living in the dark ages. No one is able to print documents from their desktop computers, unless someone takes the time to print a document.
